$20,000 to be Awarded to Local Area Schools

Earning for Learning turns money spent at Eastland Mall into cash prizes for local schools

Columbus, OH (August 1, 2006) – Eastland Mall officials announced today that for the third year in a row, the mall will award cash prizes to local area schools this fall.  Eastland Mall has upped the amount of cash prizes this year to a total of $20,000 that will be given to five area schools.  Eastland Mall drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts.  Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at Eastland Mall over an 8-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to win cash prizes for the school of their choice.

“Earning for Learning reinforces Eastland Mall’s commitment to our community and to the city of Columbus.  We are thrilled to have the ability to once again run this promotion and help support Columbus schools with cash they can use for anything from books, to computers to playground equipment” said Richard Hunt, Eastland Mall General Manager.

Now through September 30th, each dollar that customers spend can be turned into points for the school of their choice.  Mondays and Tuesdays are Double Points Days and receipts from purchases made on these days earn double points.  Shoppers simply redeem their receipts for points at Guest Services, located in the Mall Management Office, and designate their points to the school of their choice.

Eastland Mall will keep a tally board updated weekly at the mall with a running total of each school’s points. At the end of the contest, the top five schools will be awarded cash prizes of

$10,000, $5,000, $2,500 $1,500 and $1,000 respectively. Shoppers have until September 30th, 2006 to turn in their receipts at Eastland Mall.

At the end of the contest, winning schools will be invited to a ceremony where they will receive their prizes. The winning schools will be notified by October 3rd, 2006.

Last year, over 50,000 points were totaled for Columbus area schools.  St. Paul Lutheran, last year’s grand prize winner, was awarded $6,500.

Every school in the Columbus area is eligible to participate in the contest and is not required to sign-up.  Eastland Mall encourages residents to show their school spirit by participating in the Earning for Learning program and turn their shopping dollars into money for local schools.
