Eastland Mall Goes Green
Mall launches Momtopia Monday Events & Incorporates Green Efforts
Columbus, Ohio (June 9, 2008) -- It’s easy being green, and Eastland Mall is doing its part to be socially responsible through community outreach and mall operations.
“Eastland Mall is showing its commitment to the environment. The mall has incorporated many eco-friendly aspects into to the daily routines at the shopping center, and is also sharing this commitment with the community in an effort to get its neighbors involved. That is why our first Momtopia event invites you to ‘Go Green,’” said Kristie Holmes, Marketing Director for Eastland Mall.
Eastland Mall is launching its Momtopia Monday program with a ‘Green’ themed event on Monday, June 23 from 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. in the East wing of the mall. Momtopia is a program dedicated to moms and dads that Eastland Mall initiated last May, and the mall is kicking the program into high gear this year with a series of events focused on moms with children eight years old and younger. Children and their parents, guardians or sitters are invited to attend the free events.
The June 23 event will feature an interactive program from Keep Columbus Beautiful about litter and graffiti prevention and conserving resources. Children will also enjoy a visit from the Keep Columbus Beautiful official mascot, Doris the RecycleSaurus! Following this program, children of all ages will delight in song and dance fun when local children’s singer Leslie Zak takes the stage. Eastland Mall has been actively converting its business practices to include more green efforts in every department. The security team has incorporated an EZ GO trail utility vehicle that saves on gasoline and reduces carbon emissions as well as intermittent bike patrol during the warmer months. Housekeeping uses eco-friendly cleaning products with reduced toxins and natural ingredients. The operations department installed a transparent skylight sheath in the food court which conserves heating and cooling energy, and recycles cardboard, aluminum and paper products. The mall management team has also incorporated a mail back recycling program for fluorescent lighting through Waste Management called “Lamp Tracker.” This system safely recycles fluorescent bulbs used in Eastland Mall stores and common areas which contain mercury. This effort ensures employee health and safety and complies with local, state and federal regulations.
All of these efforts combine to form a more socially responsible Shopping Center for our employees, customers, the community and environment.
