$20,000 Awarded to Local Schools by Eastland Mall

DeVry Earning for Learning turns money spent at Eastland Mall into cash prizes for local schools

Columbus, Ohio (October 3, 2008) – Eastland Mall officials announced today that for the fourth year in a row, the mall will award $20,000 to local area schools this fall.  Eastland Mall drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts.  Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at Eastland Mall over a seven-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to win cash prizes, for the school of their choice.

Each dollar that customers spent turned into points for the school of their choice. Shoppers simply redeemed their receipts for points at in the Mall Management Office and designated their points to the school of their choice.

“This year’s Earning for Learning promotion exceeded our expectations,” said Kristie Holmes, Marketing Director for Eastland Mall.  “The promotional period was slightly shorter in 2008 versus years past, however the number of points that were redeemed increased 10% over last year.  This is a clear indication of the community and school support that is present in our area.  Congratulations to all of our participating schools and their supporters for exemplifying the spirit of this program.”

Every school in the Columbus area was eligible to participate in the contest and was not required to sign-up.  Eastland Mall encourages residents to show their school spirit by participating in the annual Earning for Learning program and turn their shopping dollars into money for local schools.

Turning in receipts right up to the very end, local schools were striving to get a place in the top five.  From August 18 through September 30, over 237,000 points were collected for over 20 different schools in the Columbus area.  In the end, the following ten schools won cash prizes:

  1. Madison Christian - $10,000
  2. St. Paul’s Lutheran - $5,000
  3. Buckeye Middle School - $2,500
  4. Glendening Elementary - $1,500
  5. All Saints Academy - $1,000

Check presentation ceremonies are scheduled for each school later this month.  The Eastland Mall management team and Earning for Learning sponsors will travel to each winning school to present their cash prizes to school administrators and students.

Earning for Learning at Eastland Mall is sponsored by DeVry University and 5/3 Bank.
