$20,000 to be Awarded to Local Schools
Columbus, Ohio (August 22, 2011) – Eastland Mall officials announced today that for the 7th year in a row, the mall will award nearly $20,000 to local area schools this fall. Eastland Mall drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts. Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at Eastland Mall over a six-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to earn cash prizes, for the school of their choice.
"We are very excited to bring this program to the Columbus area again this year. Schools are so important to our community and we are very proud to offer this program in our area in support of our local schools," said Kristie Holmes, Marketing Director at Eastland Mall. "We"re pleased that this program has been so successful in previous years and that Earning for Learning has become an annual event at Eastland Mall."
Now through September 30, each dollar that customers spend can be turned into points for the school of their choice. Mondays and Tuesdays are identified as “Double-Point Days” and receipts from those select days earn the school double points. Double point retailers of the week have also been selected. Other opportunities for “Bonus Points” are listed on the mall’s website, www.eastlandmall.com. Shoppers simply redeem their receipts for points at the Mall Management Office and designate their points to the school of their choice. BP and Duchess Shoppes are proud sponsors of the 2011 Earning for Learning program, and as such receipts from their stores will also count towards the school of your choice.
Customers may also be winners as part of this program. For every receipt that customers turn in, they will be given the opportunity to enter to win a $100 Visa Gift Card. One $100 gift card will be awarded to a lucky customer each week of the six-week program.
This year, Eastland Mall will again be partnering with Franklin County Children Services in an effort to increase awareness and collect school supplies for the children and families they serve. Eastland Mall will collect school supplies throughout the Earning for Learning campaign dates and will award bonus points for such donations. In addition, Franklin County Children Services will host a Back to School / Fall Fashion Show in the mall’s food court on Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m. Fashions from Eastland Mall retailers will be highlighted during the show.
“We are thrilled to have this community partnership with Eastland Mall. Children Services understands all too well that we cannot protect children and strengthen families without the support of the community. This year we will feature the girls from our newly formed Girl Scout Troop 2188. This opportunity for the girls to be in the show will certainly build their self esteem. These youth have never participated in such an event. The provisions made by Eastland Mall and the school supply donations will give our children a great start for the school year,” said Joetta McCruter-Polk, Public Relations Specialist at Franklin County Children Services.
Eastland Mall will keep a tally board updated weekly at the mall. Each week prizes will be awarded to first, second and third place winners. Prizes are $1500, $750 & $500 respectively. Shoppers have until September 30, 2011 to turn in their receipts at Eastland Mall.
At the end of the contest, winning schools receive a special visit from Eastland Mall and its partners at which time they will receive their prizes. The winning schools will be notified by October 14, 2011.
Last year, six area schools won cash prizes including: Groveport Madison Christian School- $7500, St. Paul’s Lutheran School- $5250, St. Pius X - $2250, Ft. Hayes High School - $500, Pickerington Central - $500 and Carroll Primary - $500.
Every K-12 school in the Columbus area is eligible to participate in the contest and is not required to sign-up. Eastland Mall encourages residents to show their school spirit by participating in the Earning for Learning program and turn their shopping dollars into money for local schools.
